Originally from China, Tai Chi & Kung fu provide benefits of combat efficiency, health and vitality, longevity, mind expansion and spiritual health. Tai Chi, as an internal art, is a slow-motion, meditative exercise for relaxation, health and self-defense. Kung Fu, as an external art, uses movements that are fast, explosive and very effective for self-defense.
Both are a holistic approach to wellness (including mind, body, and spirit) and concentrate on relieving the physical effects of stress on the body and mind.
The core training involves two primary features: the first being the solo form (ch'uan), a slow sequence of movements which emphasize a straight spine, abdominal breathing and a natural range of motion; the second being different styles of pushing hands (tui shou) with a partner with practical martial application sequences implied by the forms.
