What is Taekwon-Mu?

TaeKwon-Mu an exciting experience for youth that is different from their traditional TKD study; one that is both fun and challenging. TaeKwonMu uses traditional martial art techniques in creative applications. Everything we perform is choreographed to music. We train and perform in a different uniform, using our same TKD belt.

TaeKwonMu trains: on Mondays from 6pm-7pm. The year will be broken up into these sessions:

  • Session 1 – August 21-October 9
  • Session 2 – October 16-January 15
  • Session 3 – January 22-May 21
Each session: will focus upon a specific area. We will continue to drill previously taught routines/skills throughout the year, but only to retain what was taught (not add new material).

  • Traditional Forms in creative formations – Session 1,
  • Kicking – Session 1 & 2
  • Creative Forms – Session 2
  • Weapons – Session 3
  • One-step Sparring/Fight Scenes – if time/student abilities allow

Eligible participants:

  • Yellow belts and above
  • Youth 7 yrs. & above
  • New students will be accepted at the start of each session only
  • Active MAFCI students – students need to continue training at least 2x/week in TKD

Demonstrations: This is an exhibition team, so participation in scheduled demos is expected. Demonstrations will include traditional TaeKwonDo elements, along with TaeKwonMu curriculum. At the start of each session we will provide a schedule of planned demos. We expect that last-minute requests of the team will continue throughout the season, but will limit those dates. The following are a list of possible demos:

  • Small demo after each session (in-house or outside location)
  • At scheduled Rochester MAFCI test dates – October, January, April
  • RIA World Festival (April)
  • Other possible opportunities – Festival of Trees (Thanksgiving)
  • HS sport event halftime or some larger venue?
  • Branch MAFCI schools
