BLACK BELT PRINCIPLES – 1ST DAN
1. Block first, then attack
Block first, then strike or kick
2. Block and attack at the same time
Block and stike or kick connects simultaneously
3. Attack as your opponent attacks (no block)
Your strike or kick connects before opponent reaches you
Block and attack and prepare to kick
Block, stirke, chamber leg without kicking. From the movement you can transition into a: leg block, reaping throw, kick, or close the gap to the opponent.
Follow my power direction
Use a flowing spinning movement combined with any attack or block that you may choose
Block with the body
Strong solid block based on the spirit or power forms such as Chulgi or ChipSoo
Block without moving the feet
Used when unable to move and avoid. An excellent development for the reflexes.
Block with the hands on the belt
Hold the belt and block your midsection only by using the surface area of the arm for blocking
Swing block
Smooth flowing block using a circular deflection action to produce a soft style block. This principle is the opposite of "block with the body". The "swing block" comes from the circular movements of the Korea martial art called "Tae Kyon".
Block with the leg
Blocking with the foot as well as the leg. Blocking with the leg uses the shin area to block kicks. To use this principle effectively may require some conditioning to toughen the shin and lower leg areas.
